The enticing aromas emanating from the hospitality kitchen at Berea Tech impressed parents and students invited to sample the delicious meals prepared by students. New students were lining up to sample the home-cooked cuisine and to learn from the master himself, our very own chef extraordinaire, Mr Mohil Ramgovind.
The hospitality industry encompasses a wide range of fields within the service industry, including lodging, food and beverage service, event planning, theme parks, travel, and tourism. Hotels, tourism agencies, restaurants and bars are all part of it.
The steaming hospitality kitchen is ruled by Senior Lecturer and Chef, aka, Mr Mohil.
This food creative has been part of the hospitality industry for almost his entire life, working at the Durban University of Technology for 22 years in food and beverage, and then joining the Island Hotel for five years before being approached by Berea Tech to start a Berea Tech Hotel School.
Mr Mohil has spent his entire life working in catering and events, where he has cooked for the late His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini, Royal Highness Prince Edward – Earl of Wessex, Reverend Jesse Jackson and the entire ANC entourage, among others.
“My love for teaching motivates me and seeing the look of delight on the faces of my students is priceless. The ability to teach and nurture these kids in the art of culinary cuisine is an honour, “ said a proud Mr Mohil.
This well-known chef is a member of the South African Chefs Associates and the Restaurant Association of South Africa and has a strong passion for cuisine and catering.
The Faculty of Hospitality and Catering has taken their food art to parents and students and is hosting cooking demos with students passionate about Hospitality and Catering as a career.
